Virtual Volunteering

The Brief:

Assessing the potential for an online volunteering programme for students at the Open University through a significant piece of participatory research. This work was undertaken on behalf of Changemakers.

Engaging Just Ideas:

Just Ideas engaged with Changemakers, staff and students within the OU. An online survey yielded over 1070 responses and over 300 students requested further involvement with focus group work for the research. Just Ideas ran focus groups in Leeds, Reading and via the OU's FirstClass online forum.

The Outcome:

Active engagement with all the project stakeholders resulted in an excellent take up of the survey and resulted in an in depth analysis of the already existent capacity within the OU to support virtual volunteering and a clear indication from students as to the attractiveness of this type of volunteering. The resultant report makes a strong case for the further development of virtual volunteering at the Open University. Read the report here.

"Just Ideas are extremely effective communicators who were always supportive of our project needs and those of our partner. Richard and Helen are always positive and have a genuine interest in their work, and they are willing to dedicate time to produce high quality work. The final report produced by Just Ideas was highly commended and we are confident the recommendations from this report will be taken forward in the near future. We would recommend Just Ideas to any other organisations who need an innovative and motivated consultancy service."
