People power: enhancing participation in organisations and groups
Enhance your events, planning and research activities using a range of participatory tools proven to inspire and engage your organisation’s staff or groups you work with. Explore the potential and the pitfalls of participation.
Targeted to the specific needs of the participants, this session will focus on developing the skills and confidence you need to really engage with the people you are working with. It will enable you to
- make the most of people’s ideas and expertise
- plan and deliver events/ programmes that are appropriate
- ensure clients and members feel actively involved in your work.
Target Audience: anyone working in the voluntary, community or public sectors with a remit for communication with or planning events involving staff, members, clients and networks. No previous experience of participatory methods required, nor any specific skills.
Diversity challenge: Practical tools to break down barriers
Tools for you or your organisation to overcome barriers to participation and engage effectively with diverse groups and individuals. Will help an organisation to actively embrace diversity and challenge discriminatory practice or assumptions.
This course will explore people’s attitudes to each other, and how this effects equality of experience and opportunity. Using this understanding we will look at ways of
- overcoming barriers to full participation among those you work with or seek to work with – in the workplace, or in the community
- turning equal opportunity policies or diversity policies into realities, and at how this will benefit your organisation both in terms of creating a fairer, happier organisation, and in terms of legislation and PR.
Target audience: Suitable for those within the voluntary, community and public sectors with a remit for or interest in diversity and equal opportunities. Suitable for policy makers and practitioners alike. Some experience of diversity issues would be an advantage.
Environmental Sustainability – how to improve your impact
Why is it important to act on climate change and other environmental issues? Find out more, explore how to make changes in your own or your organisation’s behaviour, and how to involve others in doing so.
A session for individuals wanting to understand more about environmental issues, particularly climate change and resource use, in order to take action for change and persuade others to do so.
- You will explore the issues, the problems, and the potential solutions.
- You will have an understanding of the major environmental issues, a personal action plan, resources for to take your action further, and a toolkit of ways of communicating the issues with others.
Target audience: Suitable for individuals and for those within organisations with a remit for communication or CSR, or an interest in promoting environmental sustainability. No previous experience of environmental education necessary, but an understanding of or interest in environmental issues will be appropriate.
