Fairtrade Schools Scheme

The Brief:
Undertaking a stakeholder consultation with agencies involved in promoting Fairtrade, retailers, teachers and young people in preparation for developing a unified, national Fairtrade Schools Scheme. When the resulting funding proposal was successful, Just Ideas managed the initial stages of the project, facilitating the advisory group and writing the Schools Action Guide. Now a permanent Fairtrade Schools worker has been appointed, Just Ideas is involved in training of volunteer assessors, and evaluating the three year project.
Engaging Just Ideas:
Just Ideas was contracted by the Fairtrade Foundation initially to undertake the multi stakeholder consultation, involving face to face interviews and facilitating a stakeholders’ consultation day to discuss and develop proposals. Just Ideas was then contracted to develop the project, which is now in its second year, and is now the project’s external evaluator.
The Outcome:
A unified Fairtrade Schools scheme for the whole of the UK, administered by the Fairtrade Foundation but owned and steered by all the stakeholders who were previously involved in promoting Fairtrade in schools. An engaging and user friendly Action Guide for schools. Greater capacity for the Fairtrade Foundation to work in schools, in partnership with other stakeholders.
"Thank you for an absolutely brilliantly run workshop with the schools stakeholders – the Fairtrade Foundation staff team sang your praises from the rooftops after you left! And it was very clear to see how well people had responded to the methodology and how you had skilfully helped people to merge their agendas. I really appreciate the calm and professional way you’ve just got on with this job."
Barbara Crowther, Head of Communications, The Fairtrade Foundation
